14 new stars in Michelin Guide 2015The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2015 is published today with 14 new stars awarded: “The 14 new stars in our 2015 guide highlight the enormous richness and variety of the UK’s restaurant scene. They range from country pubs to hipster hangouts, from counter-restaurants to classic dining rooms”, said Rebecca Burr, Editor of the Michelin Guide.

The new stars include two on beautiful Scottish Islands:

Three new pubs gain a star:

  • Star Inn, Helmsley/Harome
  • Cross at Kenilworth
  • The Treby Arms, owned by a former winner of MasterChef,

In London the diversity is even more pronounced. There are two restaurants with counters:

  • There is another great Indian restaurant in Gymkhana
  • Jason Atherton achieves another star with City Social

  • The Clove Club comes from a team who cut their teeth in pop-ups

“The public’s knowledge and interest in food gets greater every year and it won’t just be fans of cookery shows who will be planning trips to Devon to the Treby Arms”, said Rebecca Burr.

“The Clove Club shows that there is no shortage of talented young chefs coming through,” she added. “Barrafina has just got better and better over the years and even when a second branch was being planned and subsequently opened, we still experienced the same high standard of cooking.”

26 new Bib Gourmands

As well as the stars, this year’s selection sees 26 new Bib Gourmands, 9 of which are in London. This award recognises establishments offering good food at affordable prices (the limit being £28 for three courses, €40 in Ireland), and is hugely popular with readers.

“The Bib Gourmand awards also reflect the continuing trend for competitively priced, less structured and more flexible dining”, Burr said. “These include Ibérico World Tapas in Derby, 64˚ in Brighton and Palomar in Soho; as well as The Gannet and Ox and Finch, both in Glasgow.”
