The SUBWAY® brand has opened a third store in conjunction with SPAR convenience store group Blakemore Retail, as part of an ongoing partnership between the two organisations which recognises that SUBWAY® stores operate very effectively within convenience stores and on forecourts. Their simple operations and minimal space and equipment requirements make them uniquely suited to such sites.
The new SUBWAY® store opened in Newport, South Wales, at the end of July, joining the successful stores located at Blakemore Retail SPARs in Newark and Shrewsbury.
In addition, there are currently six SUBWAY® stores in development at Blakemore Retail SPAR sites across England and Wales, which will be open by the end the year.
SUBWAY stores in non-traditional locations
As the world’s largest specialist sandwich provider, the SUBWAY® brand currently has more than 1,600 stores in the UK and Ireland. There are currently more than 300 SUBWAY® stores open or in development in non-traditional locations, such as within convenience stores or on forecourt sites.
This latest partnership with Blakemore Retail highlights the strength of the SUBWAY® brand in the UK quick service restaurant market, and the ability to offer customers value sandwiches, made fresh in front of them.
Blakemore Retail – a great opportunity
Blakemore Retail is a family owned business, and represents the largest independent convenience store operator in the UK, with more than 5,100 employees and 324 SPAR stores located across England and Wales.
As Trevor Haynes, Area Development Manager, SUBWAY® UK and Ireland, comments: “We are delighted to be working with Blakemore Retail across its retail sector. It’s a great opportunity for the SUBWAY® brand to continue its expansion into key c-store locations and to offer customers calling in at SPAR stores the choice of SUBWAY® Subs, flatbreads and salads.”
