Twenty-nine young people working in the hospitality industry have been selected to compete in the regional finals of the prestigious Gold Service Scholarship 2015, following the first stage of judging which took place at Buckingham Palace.
Front of house hospitality
The competition is open to 22-30 year olds working in the UK within all aspects of restaurant service and has been designed to inspire a new generation of young people to make a professional career out of front of house hospitality. A record number entered the 2014 competition, with entries received from a wide range of service backgrounds and locations, from hotels, restaurants and contract caterers to pubs and the Royal Air Force, and from Buckinghamshire to Birmingham.
Regional finals
At the forthcoming regional finals – which will take place at The University of West London on the 18th and 19th November 2014 – the twenty-nineregional finalists will have their knowledge and practical hospitality skills tested in a variety of areas and scenarios including afternoon tea service, cocktail making and recognising errors on a laid table.
The winner of the prestigious competition will receive a year of expert mentoring including the rare opportunity to work side-by-side with industry greats. They will also have the chance to take part in prestigious culinary events, tour French vineyards in Champagne and Bordeaux and serve in some of the world’s best restaurants.

The overall winner of the Gold Service Scholarship will be decided at the National Final, held on the 2nd February 2015 at The Connaught, and announced at a high-profile awards ceremony on the 9th February 2015 at Claridge’s.
