Yelp, the online urban city guide and app, which helps people find great places to eat, shop, drink, relax and play, has compiled, using its own review and star-rating data, a list of the Top 100 places to eat in the UK.
The latest list (from 2014 data) crowns Dishoom, the Indian restaurant in London, as the best place to eat in the UK, dethroning Regency Cafe, a popular greasy spoon, also in London, to position two.
Blown away
Shamil Thakrar, Founder of Dishoom comments: “We couldn’t be more delighted to hear this news. We feel privileged just to be able to serve the guests who come through our doors for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and perhaps share a little bit of our love for Bombay food and culture with them. We’re truly blown away that so many people have chosen to share their opinions of us online to help us reach the top spot.”
From Michelin starred restaurants to greasy spoons and even a fish and chip shop, there are hidden gems galore and something for every taste and budget on this list.

Methodology
To determine Yelp’s top places to eat for 2015, their data science team analysed which places were the most popular and well reviewed over the course of 2014. The methodology behind this list differs slightly from last year’s, which unearthed the best places to eat on Yelp based on almost 10 years of reviews, this time Yelp’s data science team gave more weight to recent reviews, so that Yelpers’ opinions in 2014 mattered most, while older reviews had less influence on the list. Businesses were compared on a nationwide basis.
Engineers on Yelp’s data mining team used a technique based on the Wilson Score to compile a list of highly rated places to eat. This method takes into account both star rating and number of reviews to reveal which spots not only have top notch ratings, but also which are most popular in the Yelp community.
