LEON announces stellar 2014 results

LEON, the naturally fast food brand, has announced its financial results for the year ended 28 December 2014, describing it as a ‘momentous’ year for LEON, the company that has revolutionised fast food. LEON celebrated its tenth birthday, and grew like-for-like sales in its existing restaurants by an impressive 23%.

Offer from early morning until late night

The team at LEON continued to develop the company’s innovative breakfast menu, and showed that it has an offer that extends from early in the morning until late at night. LEON lunch-time business also continued to grow as a result of constant innovation, including introductions of dishes like the Chicken and Quinoa Salad, Lamb Kofta, Kale Caesar Salad and Lean Clean Green Shake.

Sales up 51% across 21 stores

Seven new sites opened in the year, taking the total number of stores to twenty-one. New restaurants included Victoria Place, Farringdon and Stansted Airport – some of LEON’s best performing restaurants. The success of the new openings, together with strong trading in the existing sites, contributed to an increase in total sales by 51% to £18.9m (FY13: £12.5m). After tax, group profit came in at £763,750 compared to a loss of £829,969 in the previous year.

12 more stores for 2015

To accelerate LEON’s growth, last month, after the year-end, Kingsway in Holborn opened, with 11 more stores set for 2015. Whilst LEON already has restaurants outside London, in the Eurotunnel Terminal and at East Midlands Airport, the company will continue to expand outside London in the second half of this year.

LEON Co-Founder and CEO John Vincent (pictured top) commented:

“2014 was pivotal for us. We stayed focused on the promise of ‘Naturally Fast Food’ and on putting our culture and people first. The fifty one percent increase in sales is just a result of this internal focus.

“When we started in 2004, people were surprised and intrigued by the idea that great tasting fast food could be ‘good food’. It has now become a mainstream idea. And it is something people want on their high street. Each day we are sent emails from people keen for us to move into their neighbourhood. It is very flattering, and we are doing what we can to grow. We look forward to welcoming more and more guests.”

Brilliant team

“I am sure many people who enjoy their job do so because of the camaraderie they have with the people they work with. It is the same at LEON. We have a brilliant team who I am very proud to lead. Glenn Edwards, Head of Operations, has made sure we are focusing on every customer as we grow, Adam Blaker recently joined us as Property Director to help us open beautiful new restaurants, and Antony Perring has just joined our team as an experienced CFO. In addition to financial results, we focus even more on the well-being of our teams. We will be publishing these measures alongside more conventional accounting measures. This is what really excites me.”
