Hummus Bros looks to expand through equity crowdfunding

Hummus Bros, the popular hummus and Levantine restaurant chain across London, has launched a campaign to raise £250,000 in return for 4.35% of equity through the Seedrs equity crowdfunding platform.

The fundraising will enable Hummus Bros to open two new high street outlets and continue the expansion of its unique network of pop-ups, which it has introduced in corporate restaurants within the City of London, including in Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and others.

Sales up 33% year-on-year

Hummus Bros, founded by Christian Mouysset and Ronen Givon in August 2005, now serves close to 10,000 meals a week and is a popular destination for lunch and dinner, especially. In March 2014, Jon Hassall, previously UK Operations Director of Patisserie Valerie, joined the business and has helped rebrand all the current units, pushing sales up 33% year-on-year and the restaurant EBITDA up 413%.

Jeff Lynn, CEO and Co-Founder of Seedrs, said: “Hummus Bros is widely admired for its organic growth and delicious menus. We are delighted to be hosting the Hummus Bros campaign, and we’re excited to see their customers, fans and partners jump on board to be a part of the business.”

Time to expand

Christian Mouysset, Co-Founder of Hummus Bros, said: “We have achieved some important milestones in the last few months, including an increase in sales by 33% year-on-year. It is now a perfect time to open more stores and expand our network of corporate pop-ups.  We chose Seedrs as our partner for this fundraising because it is clearly the firm trusted by investors as equity crowdfunding done properly.”

Equity crowdfunding

Other food and drink brands that have successfully raised finance on Seedrs include:

  • Chapel Down, the award-winning winemaker and craft brewer, which undertook the largest round on Seedrs so far in 2014, raising almost £4 million
  • Mike’s Fancy Cheese, Northern Ireland’s first raw milk, artisanal cheesemaker, which raised £80,000 from 98 investors
  • Oppo Ice Cream, which reached its initial investment target of £100,000 within   hours of going live and reached 300% within just a few days

Between 2012 and 2014 the equity crowdfunding sector alone grew by 410%.  Against this backdrop, in the past three years Seedrs has become the most successful equity crowdfunder in Europe, funding 110 deals in 2014, alone.
