Pieminister has opened its new flagship store in Leeds with pies, hot pots, salads and snacks served-up with a generous helping of craft beers, cocktails and music. Taking their winning pie concept up a gear, this is Pieminister’s most ambitious restaurant yet.
“Leeds is a fantastic place with a great vibe, that’s why we’ve chosen the city for our biggest restaurant to date” says Pieminister founder Jon Simon. “We can’t wait to fire up our ovens and get baking. Fans of Pieminister love what we stand for – good pies, good times and great cocktails and we have no doubt Leeds will be the same. We’ve already seen a great response on social media to our arrival and we’re looking forward to getting to know our regulars over the coming months.”
Two floors of pie heaven
Taking over the corner of Duncan Street with views across the Corn Exchange, the curved façade fronts two floors of pie heaven. Stripping back a century’s worth of neglect, Pieminister has returned the interior to its former glory, revealing parquet flooring, Leeds Steel girders and the city’s famous red brickwork.
This Victorian grandeur has been brought bang up to date with Pieminister’s signature style; metal caging, hand painted signwriting, booth seating and secret sheds furnished with curiosity-filled bell-jars and feature lights.
Leading the Brit-pie revolution
Pieminister has long been cited as leader of the Brit-pie revolution and their multi award-winning classic range sets the standard with an extensive new menu for Leeds. All the famous pie names are here: the matador, heidi, moo, chicken of aragon…..but as well as mash, gravy and minted peas, there’s a great selection of healthy and hearty sides including Bristol baked beans, garden chili peas, skin on chips, roast root veg and slaws.
Pimp-up your pie
At £1.50 each, the pie chef will skewer a helping of chorizo, courgette fritters, cider-battered onion rings or halloumi cheese on the top of your pie for a deliciously instant upgrade.
Open-top pie range
As well as pastry-encased classic pies, Pieminister introduce their new open top pie range for those who prefer something a little lighter. If pastry isn’t your thing, try the Captain Nemo (a mash-topped fish pie with prawns and capers) a slow-cooked hot pot topped with crisp sliced potato or a wholesome seasonal salad, all made to order.
Not only renowned for their exceptional taste, Pieminister pies are special because they’re made with 100% free range British meat. Even the chorizo is 100% free range and British. And staying true to the brand’s Bristol roots (where all the pies are made in their kitchens) you’ll find other champion West Country ingredients on the menu, from the West Country cheddar dressing and Bristol Caesar salad to the Bristol baked beans, Somerset goats’ cheese and West Country cider.
Drinks and nibbles
The cocktail menu offers a range of classics, sours and specials. At £5 a pop before 7pm and after 10pm, they range from the vodka marmalade ‘Paddington Bear’ to the ‘Cider Sour’.
There is also a unique selection of nibbles to enjoy with your drink, like a pan of giant crisps with Pieminister’s secret recipe Number 11 condiment or an organic British pickled hot dog served with a mustard dressing. These also go particularly well with one of the many craft beers or ciders on offer.
Pieminister Leeds is open seven days a week serving everything from mid-morning coffee to pie feasts and cocktails ‘till late every night. Find it at 15/17 Duncan Street at the junction with New Market Street, opposite the Corn Exchange and close to the Trinity Leeds Shopping Centre.
