Social Media Engagement – What does it mean for your business

#HandCSocial Investigates

#HandCSocial is an ongoing project that works across all our media – Website – Newsletter – Social Media – Events – to gain a better understanding of how social media is (or is not) being used across our industry.

Social media is used by 38M people in the UK or 60% of the population.

Since January 2014, there has been a 6% increase of growth in the number of active social media accounts and a 7% growth in the number of active mobile social accounts. This has resulted in the average daily use of social media by users amounting to 2h and 13m which is more than half the time that people in the UK spend on the internet in general.

The higher the social demographic the higher the adoption and use of social media and internet is. So if 60% of the UK population are using social media on average for two and a quarter hours every day are the hospitality and catering business who want their custom communicating with this substantial segment effectively? Or another way of asking the same question is are they engaging with them?

The rationale behind #HandCSocial has always been to try and understand this imbalance and tomorrow evening, Thurs July 23 we are hosting a group of delegates from across our industry at the citizenM Hotel in London to discuss how we engage with our customers and target audience.

Full report of the evening to follow soon. Our last #HandCSocial roundtable can be seen here.

We have two more #HandCSocial roundtable events taking place in 2015. Our next is at Hotel Football in Manchester on October 1 followed by a return to at citizenM Hotel in London on October 21.
