Brook Meadow country house hotel on Merseyside has been sold to local restaurateur Helen Demetrious by the specialist hotels team at Colliers International from an asking price of £950,000.
Brook Meadow is set in three acres of landscaped gardens at Childer Thornton in South Wirral and features 25 en-suite bedrooms, a conservatory and dining room, residents’ lounge and bar and four function rooms able to accommodate up to 200 people. The property was first built as a family home in the 19th century and became home to the order of Franciscan monks in the 1960s before being converted to a hotel in 1983.
Ms Demetrious, the owner of Sheldrakes restaurant in Lower Heswall, will undertake a major refurbishment to improve and enhance the hotel offering and create a leading restaurant, bar and wedding venue with a re-launch planned for 2016.
Helen said: “The hotel industry may have suffered greatly in the recession but this fantastic acquisition gives me the opportunity to create a vision for the hotel, turning it into something new and exciting for the future.
“Brook Meadow shall be revitalised not just as a hotel but as a tavern because I plan to create a fantastic inn called The Drunken Monk, taking the inn back to the time when monks called Brook Meadow their home with open fires, local produce and beers from microbreweries.
“The refurbishment is not limited to the inn because the Great Hall will also undergo a transformation, making it the boutique wedding venue for 2016 and a tourist attraction and superior venue on the Wirral. The launch in 2016 will welcome not only hotel residents but all of the local community to visit and enjoy.”
