Casamia to open Paco Tapas and Pi Shop at The General

Casamia, the Sunday Times’ fourth Best Restaurant in the UK, will be opening two new Bristol restaurants in the New Year. The Michelin starred fine dining restaurant is currently relocating to its new city centre location at The General, with its re-opening eagerly anticipated for January 2016, and the announcement of two further restaurants is certain to set the Bristol food scene alight.

To coincide with the news, Casamia has also launched a new website which will allow guests to reserve bookings at Casamia online for the very first time.

As part of the relocation to The General, Casamia will be using its new waterside location to open the two entirely different dining concepts: Paco Tapas and Pi Shop. Both will be located adjacent to the new Casamia premises and together the trio will face the pedestrianised Lower Guinea Street and the waterside, forming a vibrant hub of social activity and an exciting new gastronomic destination within the city centre.

Distinctly different options

Commenting on the announcement of the new restaurants, Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, Owner of Casamia, said:

“It is amazingly exciting for us to be able to let people know about our two new restaurants Paco Tapas and Pi Shop. They will offer distinctly different options to guests, but in different ways both have been inspired by Casamia’s past. Whilst Casamia will continue to offer a fine dining experience, Paco Tapas and Pi Shop guests can expect to find a more casual place to eat, where you can grab a simple lunch or dinner made from the best ingredients around. We have also just launched our new Sanchez Brothers website, where you can find information on all three restaurants and have started taking online bookings for Casamia, so it’s an incredibly exciting time – we can’t wait for all three restaurants to be open!”

Pi Shop

Pi Shop has been inspired by Casamia’s roots, when the restaurant originally served Italian pizzas. The new 40 seat pizzeria will feature an open-plan kitchen and wood-fired oven, serving a simple, affordable menu of fantastic sour dough pizzas in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. The décor will reflect a stripped back, Italian feel, with a number of Bristolian influences. The restaurant will operate seven days a week and be open all day. As well as the delicious pizzas, one-of-a-kind ice-cream will also be on offer. Despite a departure from Casamia’s fine dining style, there will be no compromise on the ingredients used at Pi Shop, and the restaurant will utilise seasonal and local produce whenever possible. It is planned that Pi Shop will open in March 2016.

Paco Tapas

Meanwhile Paco Tapas, named after Peter’s father, is a tribute to the legendary character whose infectious personality has played such an integral role to the success of Casamia. Just like Paco himself, the restaurant will be vibrant and welcoming, celebrating the interactive dining experience that tapas offers. Serving constantly changing menus developed by Casamia’s chefs, the authentic Spanish dishes will be matched by an impressive and extensive sherry list. The restaurant will celebrate the very best of Spanish cooking, and will quickly become a stylish locale where friends can gather to enjoy delicious food and quality drinks. The restaurant is planned to open in April 2016.

Evolution of The General

In November 2015, City & Country, owners of The General, received planning approval to fully pedestrianise Lower Guinea Street. Part of the redevelopment of the former hospital includes a number of commercial units in the hospital’s lower ground level, which Casamia, Paco Tapas and Pi Shop will soon occupy.

Helen Moore, Managing Director of City & Country, said:

“This is another hugely exciting step in the evolution of The General. The presence of Casamia, and now Paco Tapas and Pi Shop, is going to ensure Lower Guinea Street quickly becomes one of the most sought after dining locations within the city. Many residents have now moved into their new homes, and development continues to other parts of the site, including the iconic Octagonal Tower. We are now beginning to see how the restoration of the hospital is not just providing excellent new homes, but is also playing a significant role in the creation of a new lifestyle destination for the city.”
