Selfridges and restaurateur Des McDonald will re-open Forest Restaurant and Bar on the 24th March 2016 – with a new look and feel along with a Spring inspired menu bringing an abundance of fresh, locally grown, foraged ingredients, championing and celebrating the finest British produce.
This Spring, Forest will transport diners high above the chaotic streets of London to a secret escape poised on top of the world’s best department store. As they step out of the dedicated express lift they will be welcomed by a ‘living wall’ of plants and a spring-like forest in bloom, the restaurant will be stylishly decked with bright pops of spring colour, botanical prints and natural plants. Selfridges destination sun terrace will be decked out with floral themed potting sheds, bringing the feel of an English Country garden bursting into spring, making this a must visit roof top destination this season.
The new Spring menu will use locally sourced, British seasonal produce, and each month will celebrate a particular seasonal fruit or vegetable. Lee Bull, Group Executive Chef for Des McDonald Restaurants and Head Chef Steve Wilson, previously Head Chef for Vintage Salt Upper Street and Liverpool Street, will run the kitchen and continue to oversee the menu direction, giving fresh dining options to customers.
Breakfast will be served weekdays from 11am and will include Organic muesli; Seven grain French toast and Coconut yogurt and granola. Lunch and dinner will be served seven days a week and guests can choose from a selection of small plates including – Devonshire goat’s cheese served with seasonal vegetables and cobnuts and Seared beef, salt cured egg and Keen’s Cheddar crisp. An array of main dishes include Slow cooked wild boar and buckwheat pasta; Charred Welsh lamb ribs served with garden herb sauce and Cod “a la plancha” with shaved asparagus, peas and lovage.
Head Pastry Chef Siobhan Ambrose will continue to create her stunning range of desserts for Forest. Her delightful masterpieces include the ever popular Chocolate Forest; British strawberry & mint cheesecake and Honey & raspberry sabayon.
The Terrace has a separate entrance and a wooden bar decorated with spring blooms will serve a bespoke sharing cocktail list, magnums of wine and champagne. Floral themed potting sheds will be available for hire, and are perfect to escape from spring showers.
Hannah Bass, Selfridges Restaurants Director comments “Our Rooftop restaurant and Bar has become an iconic part of the London landscape, and this year will be no exception. We look forward to welcoming customers to Forest and away from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street”
Des McDonald comments: “I am delighted to be opening our Spring version of Forest. The concept is inspired by Britain’s lush forest and woodlands and the menu will celebrate the best of spring produce with Welsh lamb, wild boar, foraged mushrooms and seasonal vegetables and fruit. We really enjoy working with Selfridges and are excited to transform the space into another successful residency.”
