At a three day ‘Participants Weekend’ event in Copenhagen, the OAD will unveil its annual list to survey participants, Europe’s top chefs, the European press and general public. From a list of 200 European restaurants, over 25 restaurants are from the UK. Chefs expected to cook at 2016 OAD events include Albert Adria (Tickets) Barcelona, Spain, Christian Pugliesi (Relae, Manfred’s, Baest) Copenhagen, Denmark, Niklas Ekstedt (Restaurant Ekstedt) Stockholm, Sweden and Rene Redzepi (Noma) Copenhagen, Denmark.
The weekend will kick-off with a ‘Master Chef Dinner’ held on Saturday May 21st, hosted by two-time Bocuse d’Or winner Rasmus Kofoed at his restaurant Geranium, which was recently awarded its third Michelin star. The dinner will feature Rasmus Kofoed (Geranium), Esben Holmboe Bang (Maaemo in Oslo, which was also recently awarded its third star) and Eneko Atxa (Azurmendi Restaurant in Larrabetzu)
On Sunday May 22nd at the Nimb Terrasse at Tivoli Gardens, ‘The 2016 Best New Restaurant Dinner’ will feature the 9 chefs whose restaurants are eligible for this year’s Best New Restaurant award including Rasmus Munk (Alchemist, Copenhagen), Alexandre Mazzia (AM par Alexandre Mazzia, Marseille), Oriol Castro & Eduoard Xatruch (Disfrutar, Barcelona), Riccardo Camanini (Lido 84, Gardone Riviera), Hideki Nishi (Neige d’Ete, Paris), Ryuji Teshima (Pages, Paris) Antonio Guida (Seta, Milan), Vilhjalmur Sigurdarson (Souvenir,Ypres) and Yoji Tokuyoshi (Tokuyoshi, Milan)
To close the weekend, The 2016 Top 100+ Announcement Event will feature a ‘Nordic Barbecue’ featuring many of the region’s top chefs. To be held on Monday, May 23rd, the BBQ will take place at the Nimb Terrasse.
OAD (Opinionated About Dining) was created by Steve Plotnicki in 2004 as a blog. Starting as a way for Steve to document his global dining exploits, a survey was added in 2007 in a response to widespread complaints throughout the online dining community about the reliability of other guides on the market. Nine years later, a simple questionnaire sent to a handful of Steve’s friends and acquaintances evolved into a full-blown, internationally recognized, survey. 4,800+ voters have the ability to review more than 16,000 restaurants located in Europe, Asia, and North and South America, with plans already underway to add both Australia and Africa to the survey in time for the 2017 voting.
