Olympic track cycling hopeful Shannon McCurley took time out of her busy schedule yesterday, to train a team of Deliveroo riders on the eve of her departure to the Rio Summer Olympics 2016.
Deliveroo is an on-demand food delivery service that brings high-quality local restaurant food to homes and offices in an average of 32 minutes.
Shannon who will represent Ireland in track cycling at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro later this month, spent over an hour sharing her expert tips on; nutrition, fitness, road safety and bike maintenance.
Shannon says: “I really admire how Deliveroo prioritises road safety as part of its rider training and I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to work with the team. While meeting the riders, I got to put them through their paces and shared some of my tips on maintaining form, as well as energy levels on and off the road.
Todays’ session, was also a nice distraction for me as I prepare for the intense build up to the Olympics next week. Rio is going to test me physically, mentally and emotionally, but I’m really looking forward to Ireland getting behind me and showing their support.”
The special training session is part of Deliveroo’s on-going commitment to invest in their riders’ skills and experience to help ensure they remain as safe and injury free as possible.
Oliver Dewhurst, Country Manager for Deliveroo Ireland who also attended the training session believes investing in their riders skills is paramount to the company’s continued success: “We provide all our riders with safety training and top quality equipment to ensure they are safe and confident on the roads as possible, however we also believe having experienced riders like Shannon share their knowledge with our riders not only helps build their confidence but also their enthusiasm for the job – which is a priceless investment from our perspective.”
The 24 year old Australian born cyclist is the first Irish female to qualify for an Olympic track cycling event. She, along with her Irish born parents are based in Melbourne and trains there, in addition to the Irish track cycling team in Majorca, coached by Tyrone native Brian Nugent.
