Flat Iron Square opens early October 2016: Covering 40,000sq ft, it incorporates seven railway arches and surrounding open spaces, sited between Flat Iron Square, Union Street, O’Meara St and Southwark Street, London, SE1. The Flat Iron Square site forms the first part of the new Low Line in London’s Bankside.
Curator of the space and developer, Benj Scrimgeour comments: “I want Londoners to be able to come to a place with a mix of great music, artisan food and bars, with a vibe of European urban outdoor markets and squares. A space that will keep evolving and visitors keep discovering. It is a large site so we are able to explore many things. We are looking at arts ideas and bringing in a flea market with vintage clothing and other interesting stalls.
I started my first business, a mushroom farm, in these arches, so it is a fortunate and happy coincidence I am able to open them up again for a new venture following a great refurbishment by the Landlord, Network Rail.”
Within the site is Devonshire House, a restored Georgian townhouse which will have a cocktail bar, an exhibition space and private dining rooms.
Anchor partners include:
Ben Lovett, member of Mumford & Sons and co-founder of live promotions and independent label Communion, brings a new live music venue, OMEARA which promises a wide array of programming, from indie club nights, to talks, comedy, burlesque, magic and much more besides
Patricia Trijbits, and her first permanent home for ‘Where The Pancakes Are’ following a series of festivals and pop-ups
Bar Douro’s Portuguese tapas and wine bar put together by the dynamic team of Max Graham with top chef, Tiago Santos of Porto fame.
The Bar at Flat Iron Square, a relaxed under-the-open-arches bar serving great drinks in a busy European market place environment.
Trapeze from the team behind the Cooking Collective will be serving all day Californian brunch from the front of Devonshire House facing onto Flat Iron Square.
A further seven fully equipped permanent kitchens will serve a full variety of delicious food – run by independent traders.
Outside will be an additional three independent food vehicles.
The theme for the development is reflected in the brand identity – ‘happy accidents between spaces’.
Flat Iron Square will be open all day, for early breakfast to late drinks. OMEARA’s events programme to be announced in September.
