Spitalfields favourite Gunpowder is to get the weekend started with a bang with the launch of its new Saturday brunch menu on September 24th. Bringing a distinctly Indian flavour to London brunch, Gunpowder’s menu will offer the perfect antidote to anyone suffering the effects of peak avocado on toast.
Created by founder Harneet Baweja and Head Chef, Nirmal Save, dishes will include: Savoury chickpea pancakes topped with Gunpowder’s secret chutneys and shaved coconut; Kadhai Paneer parcel with crispy kale; Market-style spicy scrambled eggs with onion and tomatoes served on a sour-dough toast; Chicken liver and beef pie with spinach paratha crust; and, for a healthy option, ginger cardamom tea oats.
Nothing goes better with brunch than a good Bloody Mary…. except, that is, a Bloody Batra, Gunpowder’s own version, given a kick with natural ingredients such as whole chillies and mustard seeds instead of the traditional Tabasco.
“Batra is the last name of one of my childhood friends whose grandfather is LT. General Batra a decorated Indian general, and at his house on Sunday’s there would always be pitchers of Bloody Marys, so we named ours in his honour. I’m looking forward to bringing this and our own Gunpowder spin on brunch to Londoners” says Harneet.
Gunpowder opened in November 2015, receiving rave reviews from critics, including Marina O’Loughlin, Fay Maschler, and Tom Parker Bowles.
