Drake & Morgan to The Fable

Drake & Morgan to The FableDrake & Morgan, the privately owned bar group, is to launch its seventh site, The Fable, in the newly developed Sixty London in Farringdon. Opening in February 2014, The Fable will encompass three bars, a dining area, florist, library, deli, wine room and mixology tables.

Designed by Fusion Design and Architecture Ltd, the 10,000 square foot venue seats 436 or holds 1,000 standing and is spread over three floors, with floor-to-ceiling windows allowing natural night to flood the space.

Inspired by Aesop’s Fables…

With a mixture of furniture from communal timber benches and low-slung leather chairs to high stools, there is a variety of flexible seating options creating a relaxed space for eating, drinking and socialising. A warm colour palette, rich fabrics, bespoke lighting and textured wallpaper add a touch of luxury and elegance to the surroundings. Taking inspiration from Aesop’s Fables, a statement wall has been created using books as wallpaper, adorned with sketches of hares and tortoises alongside a clever booth area made from stacked books.

A deli will offer fresh breads, cured hams, continental cheeses and condiments from Borough Market producers as well as gifts and homeware. By night, the space will become an area for masterclasses such as butchery, flambé and mixology. The florist features a roll top bath filled with flowers whilst the wine room includes a bottle wall and tasting tables with wine available to take home.

A large alfresco area seats 80 and will feature contemporary furniture, extensive planting, outdoor heaters and giant umbrellas to provide a versatile space in winter and summer.

Sipping and sampling in the City with Tirage

Sipping and sampling in the City with TirageChampagne aficionados, stand by your flutes – a new concept specialising in Champagne and informal dining has arrived in Bishopsgate in the City, offering one of the largest selections of Champagne and sparkling wines by the glass in London, alongside an innovative menu of tasting plates.

Tirage is an all-day dining venture that will pair both familiar and lesser-known grower or rare labels from a 120-strong sparkling wine and Champagne list (over 15 available by the glass) with perfectly- portioned plats inspired by the traditional sophistication of French cuisine and of-the- moment palate of Peru.

Sipping and sampling in the City with TirageLed by Venezuelan-born businessman-turned- restaurateur Elio Machillanda and his wife Claudia, with Michelin-starred restaurateur David Moore (Pied à Terre, L’Autre Pied and, more recently, Pieds Nus) in an advisory role, the wine list and pairings have been developed by Head Sommelier, and Decanter World Wine Awards judge, Roberto Della Pietra, whose experience includes Roussillon Restaurant in Pimlico, Gauthier Soho, and John Burton- Race’s L’Ortolan in Shinfield.

Start your day with champagne breakfast

A Champagne breakfast option offers city slickers a luxe start to the day. Boiled Truffle Eggs with bread sticks and parmesan shavings are washed down with house label Perrier Jouët Grand Brut Champagne, followed by Boudin Blanc with Jacquesson Cuvee, and rounded off with fluffy Blueberry Pancakes drenched in cinnamon butter and thyme honey paired with Olivier Coulon Tradition.

Head Chef Alasdair Fraser (previously of The Abingdon, in Kensington) has ensured dish selections for lunch and dinner are inventive. From Cornish scallop ceviche with baba ganoush, grilled streaky bacon, coriander crisps and pomegranate and sorrel flower reduction; star anise honey-roasted duck breast with plum sauce and pancakes; to pan-fried foie gras with caramelised pear, chilli popcorn, kaffir lime and blini, all sizes of appetite will be satisfied, morning, noon or night.

Brunning and Price open Worsley Old Hall

Brunning and Price open Worsley Old HallAfter the successful of opening of the Bull’s Head in Mottram St Andrew in April – voted ‘New Pub of the Year’ in the 2014 Good Pub Guide – Brunning and Price have opened their fourth new pub of the year. The Autumn opening of the Sparrowhawk in Formby and the recent arrival of the Inn at Shipley preceded yesterday’s opening of Grade II Worsley Old Hall after an extensive five month refurbishment.

With its origins in the 16th century, the property is historically significant, and was the family property of the Dukes of Bridgewater. It is from here that the Bridgewater Canal, which many see as heralding the arrival of the Industrial Revolution, was planned.

“It is a truly extraordinary building with some six wings which have been added over the centuries,” said landlord David Green. “Many later additions have covered up interesting original features, but we have stripped these away to reveal more of the historic character of the hall.

“I like to think we have established a very warm, chatty and civilised atmosphere with open fires and fine old furniture: a classic English country house pub without the blight of television, loud music, gaming machines or pool tables.”
