To celebrate British Food Fortnight, Opus Restaurants is once again swapping kitchen for classroom as it heads back to school to teach primary pupils about food.
The award-winning eating establishment will be visiting St Clare’s Primary School in Handsworth on Wednesday 21st September as part of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts’ ‘Adopt a School’ charity programme. The initiative aims to tackle health issues, as well as educate youngsters on food knowledge, by sending hospitality professionals into schools to teach pupils about nutrition, hygiene, healthy eating and more.
Being leaders of sustainability and passionate about supporting local produce, Opus Restaurants will teaching Year 5 students at St Clare’s about the importance of home grown produce.
Opus’ executive chef, Ben Ternent, said: “We get the majority of our wonderful produce from local farmers and its quality is a true testament to buying British! Our roots are firmly planted in sustainability and it is essential that we educate the next generation about the importance of supporting local producers.”
British Food Fortnight is the the country’s largest celebration of British produce, where businesses promote the benefits of buying home grown British products.
