With Shrove Tuesday fast approaching, a number of London venues are preparing with much effort to entice Londoners through their doors. We have put together a round up that is full of creative menu ideas that no doubt will have the tills ringing, or should we say in 2017, the EPOS systems processing?
Pancake Day at a vibrant space dedicated to Italy’s finest icons, Bunga Bunga, Battersea
This year, the renowned pizza powerhouse in Battersea is swapping the oven for the frying pan and offering diners a deliciozo pancake for £1. Diners will be able to indulge in super soft pancakes complete with a choice of classic toppings on Tuesday 28th February. Bunga Bunga was launched in 2011 by dynamic duo Duncan Stirling and Charlie Gilkes, founders of Inception Group. Deriving its name from Italy’s most titillating joke, this tongue-in-cheek bar and pizzeria serves authentic cocktails and cuisine in a vibrant space dedicated to Italy’s finest icons. Inception Group added to it’s portfolio of innovative venues this January, with the addition of Bunga Bunga Covent Garden. The site offers BungaTINI, an Italian pizzeria and bar offering Italian produce, breakfast pastries and the very best coffee. As night falls, those in the know are able to pass through a meat locker door into Bunga Bunga Covent Garden and embark on an experiential journey leading to an all singing all dancing supper club extravaganza hidden beneath the streets.
Mr Fogg’s Tavern offering all you can eat pancakes
This year, Mr Fogg has gone all out to ensure all who visit the Tavern will be in for a flippin’ good time. Diners can indulge in all they can eat pancakes for £10.
There are savoury options including, cheddar, bacon & watercress and maple syrup & roasted ham. More traditionally sweet toothed diners are being offered whipped cream & berries and whipped Nutella & strawberries or the simple classic pancake with lemon & sugar. Mr Fogg’s Tavern, located in Covent Garden, is the eighth project from Charlie Gilkes’ and Duncan Stirling’s Inception Group and houses London’s largest collection of gins. Based on the adventures of Jules Verne’s fictional explorer, Phileas Fogg, Mr Fogg’s Tavern has an upstairs downstairs theatrical theme with a Victorian pub on the ground floor and a refined Gin Parlour and Salon upstairs.

Mac & Wild’s Scottish delicacy, Battered Mars Bar pancakes
To celebrate Pancake Day this year, Mac & Wild have stuck to their roots and created a very special Scottish delicacy, a battered Mars bar pancake.
We understand that a battered Mars Bar pancake will consist of a crepe filled with chocolate ganache and gooey caramel. The pancake will then be battered and deep-fried to create a hot crunchy outer layer, containing the ganache and caramel deep within.
An interesting option and one we suspect will acquire a Marmite like love or hate reaction from diners. Reactions we will follow on social to see if our suspicions come to fruition.
Mango Tree celebrates Pancake Day:
Thai cuisine is another pancake option available to Londoners this Shrove Tuesday at Mango Tree. Celebrating Shrove Tuesday, the kitchen team have devised an exclusive set menu which will be available featuring a Prawn Pancake Pad Thai.
Pancake Day at Nutbourne, The Shed and Rabbit:
All three restaurants from The Gladwin Brother’s; The Shed, Nutbourne and Rabbit are offering a decadent pancake dish featuring a deliciously dark chocolate mousse, clementine curd and soaked golden raisins. As always the pretty plate will be spectacularly presented and will represent all the spoils of the English countryside, including a scattering of seasonal spring flowers. Brothers Richard, Oliver and Gregory Gladwin bring wild British ingredients from the countryside to the plates of London diners.
Pancake Day at Hippo Inns
Hippo Inns have a number of pancake events in celebration of Shrove Tuesday. The Black Horse in Kingston will be offering a trio of pancake specials, including: wild mushroom and garlic with a cheddar gratin; smoked ham and cheese; and of course the classic sweet serving of lemon and sugar.
The Signal in South London, will host a ‘Toss the boss!’ competition with a pancake eating competition, seeing who can eat in the most in a minute. The winner will be awarded a £50 bar tab plus a bucket.
Doubtless all these efforts will increase covers at all the featured restaurants and many diners will return when Pancake Day is well behind us, smart marketing.
