This Summer, Radio Alice will throw open its doors to a new neighborhood, opening on Clapham’s Venn Street in June.

Brothers Matteo and Salvatore Aloe believe that delicious pizza starts with a light and digestible ancient grain sourdough base, topped with seasonal and beautiful ingredients. Head Pizzaiolo Matteo ferments the dough for 24 hours, using type 1 organic flour (with more nutrients than standard, refined flour), and wild yeast, for a base that’s crispy outside and soft inside. Championing humble pizza done beautifully, the brothers have been raising eyebrows across Italy since they started Berbère Bologna in 2010.

Seasonal and carefully sourced ingredients will form the short menu, ranging from the classics; ‘Organic fiordilatte, tomato and basil’ through to the more adventurous, ‘Speck, gorgonzola, fiordilatte, walnuts and honey’ and ‘Prosciutto di Parma, organic burrata, and orange infused oil’. A selection of piccoli, including ‘Amalfi coast anchovies’ and ‘Slow food approved Mortadella from Bologna’ will also be available, whilst desserts will include ‘Affogato with a splash of Bourbon’ and ‘Lemon & mint sorbet’. Integrity in ingredients will extend to the beer and wine list too, with a selection of organic and natural wines, including house wine from Libera Terra – a co-operative set up on land liberated from mafia control.

“The idea of community lies at the heart of Radio Alice and we immediately fell in love with the close-knit feel of the Clapham neighbourhood” says Salvatore, “Our pizzas are as much about the organic sourdough base as they are about seasonal toppings. Quality Italian produce is crucial and we only use the very best ingredients that we’d want to serve to our friends, family and now the Clapham community” adds Matteo.

Located opposite the Clapham Picture House, the restaurant will retain much of the building’s existing design. Distressed walls clad with sheet metal and stark white tiles, will be offset by electric hues, whilst salvaged furniture from Bologna will include an eclectic mix of leather banquettes and reclaimed school-chairs. Paying tribute to their roots in Bologna, Radio Alice is named after the city’s 1970s Italian pirate radio station. Staying true to their musical roots, this will be a place where people find the hours drift by to the backdrop of Italian and English 70s and contemporary beats.
