Rocking Good Sushi Take TwoThe Kurobuta pop-up was such a success – it was such a hit with diners who fell for the unique chilled out ambience and exceptional Japanese food, that it’s now a permanent fixture on the Kings Road restaurant scene – that chef/owner Scott Hallsworth is now opening a second site on Kendal Street in the heart of Marylebone.

The new venue takes its inspiration from the Izakayas of Japan, where tapas-style plates are served to accompany drinks in a casual setting. And of course, Scott (ex head chef of the legendary Nobu, both here and in his native Australia) is a highly skilled and experienced exponent of Japanese cuisine, and has designed an all-day menu inspired by his passion for pushing gastronomic boundaries and giving Japanese classics a contemporary, sometimes Western, twist.

Spanking fresh sushi, in a variety of creative incarnations such as Soft Shell Crab Tempura Maki with Kimchee Mayo, will take a starring role with the appointment of a specialist sushi chef, alongside an imaginative selection of innovative snacks, salads and stunning sashimi.

Robata fans are in for a treat too, with an irresistible choice cooked over charcoal, including of course Scott’s signature dish of BBQ pork belly in steamed buns.

Kick start your day – with a difference

Morning tea will be served from 9am with a unique selection of East-meets-West pastries to accompany your coffee, refreshing pot of Japanese tea or iced cold healthy tonic, one of which will be named Rocket Fuel, packed full of rocket leaves, ginger and matcha tea. Think croissants with green matcha tea butter, Yuzu tarts and Brioche buns with Japanese mushrooms, miso and gorgonzola.

Japanese cuisine al fresco

The new space, designed by Salon Edesia, will have a similarly chilled-out vibe to the original Kurobuta, with rock’n’roll tunes, wooden tables for up to 60 diners and a separate bar area to kick back and sample the cocktails and sake selection. Unique to the Kendal Street venue, there’ll also be large bi-folding doors opening onto an outdoor space catering for up to 20. Where else in London can you enjoy stunning Japanese cuisine al fresco?
