Brasserie Bar Co, which also owns Brasserie Blanc, is set to open its fourth pub, The British Queen, in Orpington in early September. The British Queen will open as part of the White Brasserie Company’s plan to roll out 20 pubs over the next three years, with The Sun Inn in Chobham due to open towards the end of the year.
Designed by PNW, The British Queen, which has been unoccupied for two years, has been brought back to life with a full refurbishment. The classic design of the 4,000 square foot space features reclaimed wooden floors, oak beams and relaxed lighting. There is a large and open bar area to the front of the property and a newly built extension to the rear that houses the 120-cover brasserie. A private garden seats another 50 al fresco.
The menu is a combination of classic British pub food and French brasserie dishes, which will change quarterly to reflect the best of the season’s ingredients.
The autumn menu, which will be launching at the end of September, will offer starters including Burgundian snails in garlic herb butter; pan-fried lamb sweetbreads and pickled wild mushrooms with roast hazelnuts; and smoked Morteau sausage and potato salad with poached egg. Mains will feature the likes of roast Scottish scallops, smoked bacon, autumn vegetables and Meunière sauce; roast pork belly, and chateau potatoes with poached crab apple; and tarte flambé. Classic pub favourites include 30 day dry-aged Cornish heritage steaks and pie of the week.
