Hospitality takes to crowdfunding

Raising finance for hospitality ventures of all kinds is being transformed by crowdfunding and the opportunities it brings for entrepreneurs to raise funds for investment directly from members of the public.

The offers, and their success, are very diverse: for every Chapel Down winery (their offer was fully subscribed in just a few days) there are others who fail to convince investors.

However, it’s worth keeping an eye on what’s happening, both for the investment opportunities and for what they tell you about the hospitality sector, its vibrancy and – perhaps – the trends that it’s following or creating.

For example, the hospitality-related offers on Crowdcube at present include a frozen yoghurt chain, group cooking with chefs, craft beer, and a proposal for a 5-star hotel:

Samba Swirl have diversified revenue based across four sites and are looking to open an additional 3 mall sites ahead of a later round of Private Equity investment.

The AVEQIA brand first opened in Stockholm and now have their eyes on the London market through their new company, AVEQIA Farringdon Ltd with their first restaurant currently located by St Paul’s Cathedral. The Swedish proof of concept has welcomed corporate guests from Goldman Sachs, Deloitte and J.P. Morgan amongst many more.

London Velvet is a distinctive beer, a blend of London style Porter Ale and fine West Country Cider, offering the consumer a new, highly drinkable and refreshing drink, steeped in the heritage of two of our great brewing traditions. The aim is to eventully hold a strong position in the fast growing and profitable UK Craft Beer sector.

Hospitality takes to crowdfundingThe Monzie Hotel is aiming to raise £1m in return for 20% equity stake in the The Monzie Hotel Ltd, a subsidiary of Corryard Holdings Ltd which won the Scottish Homes Award for Renovation of the year. The funds will be used to renovate an A-listed Church in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland into a 5 star Exclusive Use Hotel located 8 miles from Gleneagles Golf Resort.
