To help inspire more guests to come together underneath the mistletoe this year, TGI Fridays has launched a trial of ‘mistletoe drones’ – a UK first. The drones have already been piloted at TGI Fridays Manchester Royal Exchange restaurant, and are set to make further visits at selected restaurants across the country as the Christmas party season gets underway. The drones even feature a ‘kiss cam’ to give a drone’s eye view of the action.
No kiss under the mistletoe?
The mistletoe drones were created further to research from Fridays which revealed that nearly half of UK adults (47%) have never had a kiss under the mistletoe. Perhaps worried about the risk of rejection, only a quarter (27%) plan to give it a go this year, despite 42% saying Christmas is one of the MOST romantic times of the year.
For many, the work Christmas party is where romance blossoms, with 39% admitting to kissing a colleague at the annual work do, while eight per cent say they’ve snogged their boss – and of those who enjoyed a work snog, 46% said they felt ‘happy’ afterwards, with just 13% admitting feelings of guilt.
Four per cent of all UK adults married someone after breaking the ice at a work Christmas party, while 34% of those who kissed a colleague said it led to a one night stand.
Those working in the hospitality industry were revealed to be the most likely to kiss a colleague at the work Christmas party (63%), followed by those in the property industry (62%) and media (56%).
However, less than half (48%) said they wouldn’t want a cheeky kiss under the mistletoe this year, with one in five (18%) saying they would like some encouragement to help them pluck up the courage to make their move.
Kiss a celebrity under the mistletoe?
When asked which celebrity they would most like to have a kiss with under the mistletoe this year, recently-married George Clooney topped the poll for women, whilst actress Kelly Brook was the number one choice for men. Another George – George Osborne – came bottom of the poll for women, whilst fellow politician Theresa May was the woman men would least like to have a snog with.
Top five celebrities UK adults want a Christmas snog with:
Celebrities women want to snog | Celebrities men want to snog |
George Clooney | Kelly Brook |
David Beckham | Scarlett Johansson |
Brad Pitt | Cheryl Fernandez-Versini |
Channing Tatum | Michelle Keegan |
Idris Elba | Nicole Scherzinger |
Rachel Waller, Marketing Manager, TGI Fridays said: “Everyone loves a good Christmas party, but we all know things can be a bit awkward until someone breaks the ice. We’re known for legendary celebrations at Fridays, so we wanted to see how we could make Christmas get-togethers in our restaurants even more entertaining, and offer guests the encouragement they need to make their move – particularly the one half of UK adults who have never had a kiss under the mistletoe.
