Social media enables users to reach out and engage with people and brands in a very public way. 38M people are now using social media in the UK with the average user spending two and a quarter hours on their favoured social channels every day. 31M are on Facebook and 15M on Twitter alone before you even look at the other social channels.
Delegates and sponsors regularly discuss many different aspects of effective use of social media at the #HandCSocial roundtable events we hold. The last roundtable on 23 July focused on engagement and what it meant to the delegates around the table. The full review of the evening and some of the answers can be seen here.
The conclusion of the evening saw delegates and sponsors pretty much agree that engagement on social media is a key measure of effectiveness and on that theme we have decided to launch a new weekly feature simply called ‘Tweet of the Week’.
So which tweet inspired us to action? By starting and developing an engaging conversation our inaugural ‘Tweet of the Week’ has been awarded to @GalvinatWindows.
Galvin at Windows is the celebrated Michelin-starred restaurant on the 28th floor of the London Hilton on Mayfair’s Park Lane. Offering diners seasonally inspired modern French haute cuisine and à la carte dining from its spectacular viewpoint over London.
The tweet in question was sent out last Friday and simply stated – ‘We hate to make you peckish at lunchtime with this perfectly crispy skin, but this is just too good not to share’ – with the image below.
We immediately replied with – peckish @GalvinatWindows bloody ravenous more like it :( - to which we received the reply - @HandCNews We do sincerely apologise - others then joined the fun including @jen725 – @HandCNews @GalvinatWindows I’m also starving and trapped under a sleeping baby! – A predicament indeed.
The apologetic reply from @GalvinatWindows led us to the more graceful response – We should think so too @GalvinatWindows scandalous ! We speak for the silent 100′s still salivating
It all ended with a tweet from @GalvinatWindows inviting us tom come and try the restaurant. We have now booked a table and hope to meet their Top Tweeter as well as enjoying a fine dinner with an amazing view. Our full review of the evening will follow soon.
We have never dined at Galvin at Windows like all too many other great restaurants sadly and on Friday morning we had no intention of doing so in the short term either. One clever tweet and some considered interactions however has changed that and we are now very soon. So our first Tweet of the Week recognises creativity, engagement and return on investment, three of the foundations of any marketing activity not just social media. Maybe who ever looks after Twitter at Galvin at Windows will be kind enough to come to our next roundtable event and share some of their social and wider marketing know-how with other delegates, please?
If you would like to nominate a tweet that you feel justifies as a Tweet of the Week please tweet @HandCNews using the hash tag #HandCSocial then - my TOTW is – a link to the tweet – and why – a 140 character challenge in itself.
