With more than 50 new restaurants and major international sporting events including the UEFA Euro Football Championships and the Rio Olympics scheduled for 2016, Domino’s Pizza UK has announces that it is looking for 5,000 new team members in the UK and Ireland over the next year.
Having recently celebrated its 30th birthday in the UK with the opening of its 900th store at Ashford in Surrey, Domino’s plans to build on the 50+ new store openings it will have made by the end of 2015.
Jobs will be available in roles ranging from delivery drivers and store team members to pizza makers and franchise managers. New starters will be supported by the company’s new online induction programme and management training system, which is due to launch next year.
Healthy growth
“We have seen continued healthy growth in the business this year with like-for-like sales up by over 14% in the UK and Ireland in Quarter 3 of 2015. Our digital ordering now represents 77% of our delivered sales with nearly 50% made on our app. There are some exciting innovations coming in the next few months to make ordering even easier as we are gearing up for a strong 2016,” said Scott McLeod Operations Director, Domino’s Pizza UK.
England, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland have qualified
Now England, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland have qualified, Domino’s expects a peak in orders around UEFA Euro 2016 which will feature 24 teams and 51 games between 10 June and 10 July 2016. During the last World Cup in Brazil, Domino’s saw an average game day sales uplift of almost 10 per cent peaking at a 23% lift for England’s game against Uruguay.
The combination of store growth and unprecedented home interest could mean orders exceed 7million pizzas during the Euros. To meet the demand, Domino’s is looking to recruit an additional 1,500drivers alone across the UK and Ireland to deliver freshly-made pizzas.
- Pizzas sold during the tournament are expected to stretch the equivalent of over 12,000 miles or more than 200,000 football pitches
- That’s a massive 50 million slices of pizza
- Over 5,000 Domino’s pizza makers will create the pizzas
- They will use over 800,000kgs of tomato sauce, 825,000kgs of mozzarella cheese and 42 million slices of pepperoni
Less than a month later, the world will witness the biggest sporting event on the planet – the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Over 17 days, 10,500 athletes from 206 countries will compete in 42 sports with a global TV audience estimated to be in excess of 900 million.
As part of its new online induction, as well as throughout people’s careers, Domino’s offers its employees full training ranging from dough management and food hygiene for pizza makers through to road safety for pizza delivery experts. Domino’s Pizza recruits on the basis of ability and many team members go on to management positions in under two years.
