Located on Leonard Street, a stone’s throw from Old Street station stands Eyre Brothers – an East End institution serving up authentic Portuguese and Spanish cuisine alongside fine wines from the Iberian Peninsula and creative cocktails. Now in its 15th year, Eyre Brothers will open for lunch for the first time on Saturdays and Sundays from 4th June, offering diners the perfect excuse to enjoy long, lazy afternoons sampling exquisite tastes from this part of the world. Having launched in 2001 by Executive Chef David Eyre, the restaurant has gone from strength to strength delivering fabulous food in a smart, yet relaxed environment to busy Londoners and visitors to the city.
Using only the very best ingredients, from the freshest fish to the most vibrant vegetables and a whole range of great tasting meats, Eyre Brothers ensure that the same high standards and authenticity are extended across each and every dish on the menu. David Eyre is renowned for being one of the first chefs to introduce Iberico pork and salt cod to London and continues to deliver the firm favourites in an array of creatively designed plates. Guests have the option of dining from the main menu or from the tapas menu, which is served in the bar and lounge area.
Dishes on the main menu include: Acorn-fed Ibérico shoulder ham; Portuguese salt cod and potato cakes; Octopus (Galician style) with smoked paprika and olive oil; and Portuguese baked spiced rice with duck, smoked toucinho and chouriço; parsley and orange. Tapas dishes include: Belly pork braised in white wine, paprika, garlic, onions and bay with fried bread; and Vingared anchovies with parsley, garlic and walnuts. Ideal for an early weekend lunch is the selection of egg dishes such as Gypsy baked eggs with jamón, chorizo, fried tomatoes and garlic, green beans and fried tomatoes; and Portuguese set scrambled eggs with salt cod, fried potatoes and garlic; lettuce and black olives.
To accompany their food, guests can choose from Eyre Brothers’ extensive list of robust and refreshing wines spanning the Iberian Peninsula. Options include cool and fresh Atlantic wines and warm spicy Mediterranean wines. A selection of Sherries is also on offer as well as a range of sparkling wines. Cocktails include Eyre Brothers Rum Punch (dark rum, lime, ginger ale, nutmeg and ginger), ideal for the summer months.
Eyre Brothers offers a contemporary yet welcoming interior with large floor to ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light. A mix of wooden, metallic and leather textures alongside brightly coloured accessories, and pretty floor tiling creates a warm and vibrant atmosphere. A separate bar area is perfect for those just looking to visit for a drink and a few plates of tapas.
Its convenient Shoreditch location makes Eyre Brothers the perfect spot for business lunches and entertaining clients, as well as social gatherings for couples or groups in search of fantastic food and wine.
David Eyre has been a key figure on the London dining scene since launching The Eagle in 1991, credited as the original gastro-pub. In 1997 he sold his share to his then business partner and opened Eyre Bros. in 1998 with his brother Robert, a delicatessen-cafe offering simple quality food. In 2001, the eatery was sold and David, along with James Goff and Ben Chesterfield, launched Eyre Brothers Restaurant.
