As the ‘Bring Your Own Bottle’ revolution gathers pace across the UK, the landmark Printing Press Bar & Kitchen is to become one of the first restaurants on George Street to embrace the trend whilst doing their bit of charity.
Every Tuesday night, diners will be able to bring their own bottle of wine in turn for a corkage fee which will be donated to the restaurant’s nominated charity, Social Bite.
Visitors coming to the renowned venue for dinner will be able to bring their favourite bottle of wine and enjoy a carefully crafted menu using the finest Scottish ingredients whilst helping a local charity that makes a huge difference to people’s lives in the city.
Visitors looking to enjoy BYOB will also be able to choose from a carefully selected range of champagne and white and red wines from the exclusive PPBK Bottle Shop which comes with explanations of its origin and flavour. These wines will be sold at Bottle Shop prices and are available to enjoy at the table or to take away.
The not-for-profit Social Bite sandwich shop gives 100 per cent of its profits to good causes. The social business also feeds the local homeless community through its ‘Suspended Coffee and Food’ initiative. Mike Lewis, General Manager, said: “Printing Press Bar & Kitchen has earned itself a strong reputation in the city as ‘the place to be’ so it is great to be able to extend our offering to customers by introducing BYOB on a Tuesday evening.
“Gone are the days where BYOB was frowned upon by fine dining restaurants; many Michelin-starred eateries across the UK are leading the revolution as they see the value in being more flexible and hospitable with customers and allowing them to bring their favourite bottle to a nice restaurant. Our very own Bottle Shop will offer a rotation of wines and champagnes for customers to enjoy with their meal, each coming with an explanation so our guests can make an educated decision about what they pick as the perfect accompaniment for their meal.
“Our approach in supporting Social Bite through this initiative means our customers who are serious about food and wine also have the opportunity make a difference for a local charity and an incredibly worthwhile cause. We look forward to welcoming customers over the coming weeks.”
Josh Littlejohn from Social Bite added:. “Social Bite is grateful to The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen for their support through is BYOB initiative.
“We plan to use these funds to do several things. Firstly we want to provide Christmas Dinners for homeless people throughout Scotland on Christmas Day. Secondly we want to provide training and employment programs to really break the cycle. And thirdly, we plan to build a village for 20 homeless people to live in 2017.
“Anyone that supports The Printing Press’ BYOB night will be supporting these efforts.”
The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen has launched a new seasonal food menu, created by Head Chef, Colin Fleming, giving visitors a real taste sensation for autumn, making full use of seasonal, Scottish produce.
