On Saturday 12th November, the vibrant British-centric brasserie Mustard will open its’ doors for brunch with a brand new menu. The restaurant in Brook Green from founders Lawrence Hartley, Tim Healey and Head Chef Jason Wild is committed to serving seasonal food and responsibly sourced ingredients from the nation’s finest purveyors for a quintessentially British brunch.
It’s out with the avo and in with the nettles at Mustard, ‘The Full Green Mustard’ sees Calder Valley nettles and oats accompany grilled rainbow chard, poached free range eggs, roast tomato, woodland tomatoes, and toasted wholemeal bloomer. Its carnivorous cousin, ‘The Full Mustard,’ cuts the mustard for the traditionalists, served with treacle bacon, Cumberland sausage, roast tomato, woodland mushrooms, house baked beans, poached free range eggs, and toasted wholemeal bloomer. Other classics on the breakfast menu include, Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and rainbow chard, and Smoked haddock, kale and potato omelette. Later in the day, the menu will include Brixham crab and shaved fennel salad; Roast chicken leg, creamed potato with onion and tarragon sauce; Scotch rump steak with herb butter and Poached pear and sweet cheese for pudd.
Thirst is quenched with beers from the West London based Portobello Brewery, English sparkling wines from the Furleigh Estate and Hampshire’s Hambledon and spirits from Sussex-based Blackdown Distillery. For those feeling a touch tender (the morning after the night before) and in need of a boost Mustard-style, the hair of the dog comes in the form of a Mustard Gin Mary with gin, tomato juice, mustard, horseradish and spices, or simply opt for some 100% fresh squeezed orange juice.
‘We’re cooking the food that we love to eat – hearty, comforting, British dishes with an emphasis on great produce,’ says co-founder Lawrence. ‘We’ve created a menu and atmosphere perfect for whiling away the weekend in comfort and good company,’ adds Tim.
The restaurant’s interior draws inspiration from the British countryside with wood paneling, mustard leather banquets and hues of warm green. Housed in a former Victorian grocery shop, the restaurant has retained many of the building’s features with the original tiled panels bordering the walls. The brass-topped bar is punctuated with leather studded stools and the restaurant’s al-fresco area boasts a chequered tiled floor and a soft yellow awning. Mustard’s walls are hung with artwork inspired by Britain’s greats from Frances Bacon to Barbara Hepworth and Turner.
