Following a hugely successful launch local businesses, press and bloggers all come together to celebrate the launch. Thai Leisure Group (TLG) the authentic Thai hospitality brand, has officially opened its doors to Thaikhun their Thai street food concept in Guildford – the first south of London! The night included live cocktail demonstrations, behind the scenes look at the bustling kitchen, and a selection of authentic Thai street food menu highlights. The 3,690 square feet site, has been unveiled and is the latest addition to Guildford’s booming dining scene.
The traditional and rustic site includes an open kitchen an intimate outdoor dining area, as well as authentic artefacts and objects brought directly from the street markets of Thailand. Inspiration for this site has been taken from the world famous Maeklong Market, a uniquely popular street food destination that has train tracks running straight down its middle! The interior décor captures the drama of this environment ensuring a memorable and exciting dining surrounding for customers, reminiscent of the bustling Thailand markets that inspire the menu.
The Guildford concept, which brings Thai street food from the streets of Thailand to the UK, has 124 covers and has created over 40 full and part time jobs for the local area. Thaikhun’s authentic, rustic restaurant design combined with tasty street food provides a distinct interactive dining experience.
The opening of the Friary Street venue will be Thaikhun’s eighth UK site and follows the recent restaurant launch announcement in Newcastle’s Metro Centre, opening at the end of March. Additionally, Thaikhun currently has sites in Manchester, Nottingham, Oxford, Cambridge, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
The addition of Thaikhun’s Guilford site is the latest opening in Thai Leisure Group’s nationwide expansion plans, with an expected five new sites planned for the south of the country in 2016. This continued investment allows TLG to continue to play a pivotal role in the changing face of the UK’s Thai restaurant industry.
Ian Leigh, Managing Director at Thaikhun says “We are so excited to finally open the doors at Thaikhun Guildford and we hope that our new restaurant will offer something a little different for diners in the area. Maeklong Railway Market, the inspiration for this restaurant, is a really buzzing area and we have tried to capture that drama. By combining authentically traditional Thai street food and a really interactive dining experience we hope to inspire dreams or memories of exploring Thailand.”
